Faith in Research: Connecting Evidence, Practice and Faith in Addiction and Recovery
ISSUP is pleased to share Faith in Research: Conversations about Empirical Evidence on Addiction and Recovery, a monthly series of virtual conversations organised in collaboration with the International Substance Abuse and Addiction Coalition (ISAAC).
The initiative brings together faith-based practitioners and individuals with lived experience, alongside researchers, in a safe and supportive environment to explore the intersection of faith, evidence and practice. Topics will range from understanding addiction and recovery, substance use and faith in young people, substance use and crime, family recovery, neurodivergence and trauma-informed faith communities. The initiative is coordinated by Stuart Leitch (ISAAC), Dr Maike Klein (Lancaster University), Dr Mulka Nisic (ISSUP) and Dr David Patton (University of Derby).
The series will be held on the first Wednesday of each month via Zoom. Faith in Research welcomes UK ISAAC and ISSUP members and their guests to join informal, interactive conversations where different perspectives are encouraged and valued.
The series launched on 7 October 2026 with an introductory session, Faith in (Addiction) Research: Starting the Conversation, which introduced the core team, outlined the aims of the initiative and set the stage for future discussions.
Building on the introductory session, the series will continue on 4 November 2026 with “What Do We Mean by Addiction?”, inviting members working faith-based to explore different understandings of addiction and share perspectives from evidence, faith-based practice and lived experience.
