Investing in Evidence-Based Prevention (IEP) Workshop

INVESTING IN EVIDENCE-BASED PREVENTION (IEP) WORKSHOP

An initiative promoted by ISSUP Global, and realized by Association Casa Rosetta, host of the National Chapter ISSUP Italy, within the framework of the project “La Persona al Centro” funded by the Department for Policies against Drugs and Other Addictions, Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

The Association Casa Rosetta, lead organization of the project “La Persona al Centro”, funded by the Department for Policies against Drugs and Other Addictions, together with the International Society for Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP Italy National Chapter and ISSUP Global), organized and carried out an Investing in Evidence-Based Prevention (IEP) workshop on 24 and 31 October 2025 dedicated to the promotion of the science of prevention, specifically aimed at those who hold decision-making and resource-management roles.

The workshop provided participants with a clear and effective understanding of evidence-based substance use prevention, with reference to the recommendations of the EDPQS (European Drug Prevention Quality Standards) manual by EUDA (The European Union Drugs Agency). It also aimed to equip those in decision-making positions across various educational and healthcare settings with tools to improve substance use and addiction prevention policies and interventions at national and global levels.

The workshop offered participants the tools to evaluate preventive interventions aimed at reducing drug demand in different life and work contexts, with particular reference to educational and school settings.

The workshop, designed by the late Jeff Lee and Rachele Donini for ISSUP Global, was organized and managed by Casa Rosetta on the platform fad-casarosetta.it, and led by Dr. Rachele Donini, psychologist and Master Trainer for the European Prevention Curriculum (EUPC), with the coordination of educational tutor Dr. Roberta Di Maria.

The workshop proved effective and replicable in its overall structure. The comparison between the pre and post-tests showed strengthened knowledge of prevention science principles, with more coherent and informed responses, confirming participants’ overall appreciation.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants received the teaching materials prepared by the trainer and translated into Italian by Dr. Federico Lombardo, as well as the availability of further clarification and in-depth meetings. A first follow-up meeting with two participants took place online via Zoom on 18 November, coordinated by Dr. Roberta Di Maria. A certificate of participation was issued to attendees.
