ISSUP Togo has successfully held its first youth engagement meeting, marking an important milestone in strengthening youth participation in substance use prevention efforts across the country.
The meeting, held on 21 March 2026, brought together representatives from 10 youth associations, creating a dynamic platform for dialogue, collaboration, and shared commitment to addressing substance use challenges among young people.
During the session, participants explored key issues surrounding substance use, including its impact on health, education, and social inclusion. The discussions reinforced the importance of early prevention, peer-led engagement, and community-based solutions. The meeting also created space for young leaders to share perspectives and identify practical ways to contribute to national prevention efforts.
A key outcome of the meeting was the strong interest expressed by participants in forming a structured youth network under ISSUP Togo. This aligns with the initiative’s broader objectives to mobilise youth, raise awareness, and promote sustainable, youth-driven solutions to substance use challenges.
As part of the next steps, ISSUP Togo will convene a second meeting in two weeks, during which a Youth Steering Committee will be elected. This committee will play a central role in guiding youth-led activities, including awareness campaigns, community outreach, and digital engagement initiatives.
The establishment of this youth platform represents a significant step towards building a coordinated and sustainable youth engagement structure in Togo. It also reflects ISSUP Togo’s commitment to empowering young people to take leadership in promoting healthier, more inclusive communities.
