The Recovery Allies Link and Lend Inventive Engaging Support (ALLIES)
The Recovery Allies Link and Lend Inventive Engaging Support (ALLIES) Model introduced by NDDCB appears to be part of a growing global movement to professionalize and deepen recovery support services. In 2024, 18 members of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB) completed the URC Recovery Allies curriculum, earning global certification through the Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme (DAP). This credential empowered them not just as practitioners, but as trainers and disseminators of the model across Sri Lanka It was an honour to participate in the certificate awarding ceremony held in the presence of Dr. Khalid Humayuni, Programme Manager , Afghanistan, DTC Project, The Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme, and the Mr. K.K.S Kothalawala (Commander- Retired USP)Director General of the NDDCB. On the 31st of August 2025, a Certificate Awarding Ceremony was held at the Auditorium of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB).
True to their commitment, NDDCB launched Echo-style trainings—a hub-and-spoke model that allows certified experts to mentor and train others in a cascading format. The first major dissemination took place at the Senapura Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in August 2024, where 38 professionals were trained over five days. These included staff from Senapura, Kandakadu, and Vavuniya centers—Sri Lanka’s largest government-run rehabilitation facilities Echo Training Programme – NDDCB Auditorium In 2025, a transformative Echo-style training was conducted at the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB) Auditorium, bringing together 70 dedicated professionals from across Sri Lanka’s recovery and education sectors.
