UYDEL (ISSUP Uganda) participated in the Technical Experts Meeting on the development of the African Union Plan of Action on Drug Control and Crime Prevention (2026–2030), held in Maputo, Mozambique.

UYDEL was represented by Dr. Rogers Kasirye and Ms. Barbara Nakijoba, who contributed key technical inputs to inform the formulation of the upcoming continental framework. Their presentations highlighted findings from the evaluation of the outgoing AU Plan of Action and outlined priority areas aligned with Agenda 2063.

Dr. Rogers Kasirye, ISSUP Uganda Director, stressed the urgent need to strengthen crime prevention systems, enhance multi-sectoral coordination, and promote evidence-based approaches to better protect young people and communities across Africa.

Ms. Barbara Nakijoba highlighted the importance of empowering young people to meaningfully participate in shaping the next strategy. She called for creating safe environments, building youth capacity, and popularising Agenda 2063 to ensure that young people understand and engage with its aspirations. The team also met with the ISSUP Global Chief Executive, Joanna Travis-Roberts, on the sidelines of the meeting.

The contributions from the Ugandan delegation reaffirm UYDEL’s and Uganda’s commitment to advancing youth-centered, preventive, and inclusive approaches within Africa’s drug control and crime prevention agenda.
