The Prevention Educator is a vital member of our Prevention Services team, responsible for developing and delivering evidence-based education and prevention programs related to Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD). This role involves engaging with diverse audiences—including youth, adults, and community organizations—throughout Sussex County to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce substance use.

Responsibilities: 

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver evidence-based prevention programs to youth, adults, and families. 
  • Assist in organizing and implementing prevention campaigns, including but not limited to What’s Your Anti-Drug?, Alcohol Awareness Month, National Drug Fact Week, National Prevention Week, Red Ribbon Week, and Week of Respect.
  • Develop educational presentations complete with course materials, audio/visual aids, and more.
  • Conduct training for educators and community partners in research-based approaches to alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
  • Facilitate prevention programs in Sussex County schools, and community centers.
  • Work cooperatively with project coordinators as it relates to community education.
  • Serve as a liaison between school administrators, personnel, and private and public community organizations.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of presentations and process and outcome evaluation tools.
  • Attend agency coalition meetings. 
  • Serve as an agency representative at local, county, and state meetings.

Position Details:

This is a full-time position, averaging 40 hours per week. Flexibility is required, with occasional evening and weekend hours to support programs and events.
