Nigeria Nurses Did It Again—Another Impactful Event!!!
On June 26, the World Drug Day and International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking were observed by members of IntNSA-Nigeria. We demonstrated a commitment to evidence-based education to promote health —and enhance community resilience against substance use, such as alcohol-, tobacco-, opioid-, and drug use-risk reductions.

Given the high rates of substance use among Nigerian youths (e.g., approximately 40%), which is three times the global average,

raising awareness of substance use was

vital. All stakeholders played important roles in the success of this year’s campaign initiatives

in Kwara- and Lagos- states, at the North-Central and South-West geopolitical zones, of Nigeria, respectively.

The campaign employed the Road Show Model of Education, which incorporated both Mobile Outreach and Train-the-Trainer strategies, adopting the slogan “You Matter—Say No To Drugs!!”

The primary objective of this impactful event was to enhance adolescents’ active learning and support the professional developments of teachers and counselors. Students, teachers, and counselors participated actively in establishing Drug-Free Zones at their schools.

The quality of these students’ presentations was commendable, particularly considering the limited preparation time.

Finally, as a learning team, we are debriefing for actionable insights — Learning from our mistakes to improve future events. Please assist to post on IntNSA-Nigeria’s website.

Kudos to all the board members and our partners who worked hard to ensure we had successful 2026 campaigns.
