Substance use disorders (SUDs) are among the leading contributors to the global burden of disease, affecting individuals, families, communities, and health systems worldwide. Addressing these disorders requires person-centred, evidence-based interventions delivered through coordinated multidisciplinary care.
This webinar will bring together experts in addiction psychiatry, clinical psychology, and addiction treatment and rehabilitation to examine evidence-based approaches across the continuum of care. Discussions will explore current best practices in screening and assessment, psychiatric and psychological interventions, rehabilitation, and recovery-oriented systems of care, while highlighting how policy, clinical practice, and recovery support work together to improve treatment outcomes and promote sustained recovery.

Dr. Florence Jaguga - Consultant Psychiatrist Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Kenya
Dr. Florence Jaguga is a Consultant Psychiatrist, implementation scientist, and Head of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Rehabilitation Unit at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. She is an ISSUP Global and ISSUP Kenya Chapter member with extensive experience in addiction psychiatry, health systems strengthening, implementation science, policy development, and evidence-based treatment of substance use disorders. She has contributed to national and international mental health initiatives, including collaborations with the World Health Organization.
Mr. Lambert Onderi Oigara - Founder and Director, CBT Kenya
Mr. Oigara is a Clinical Psychologist specializing in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and evidence-based psychological interventions. He is the Founder and Director of CBT Kenya and an active member of ISSUP Global and ISSUP Kenya Chapter. He has extensive experience in psychotherapy, addiction treatment, professional mentorship, and capacity building for mental health professionals.
Mrs. Esther Mucara - Chief Executive Officer Nueva Esperanza Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre Kenya
Mrs. Esther is a Mental Health Nurse, Counselling Psychologist, and rehabilitation practitioner with extensive experience in addiction treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery support. She leads Nueva Esperanza Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre and has dedicated her career to providing evidence-based, person-centred services for individuals and families affected by substance use disorders. A Member of ISSUP Kenya Chapter. She is the Secretary of Addiction Prevention and Rehabilitation Association of Kenya (APRAK) board.

Chairperson, Graceful Youth Recovery Centre (GYRC)
Ms. Nkatha Mwenda is the PR & Media Lead of ISSUP Kenya Chapter, Chairperson of Graceful Youth Recovery Centre (GYRC), and a Recovery Coach with lived experience in long-term recovery. She is a nutritionist and mental health and substance use professional committed to advancing evidence-based prevention, treatment, and recovery support. She serves on the Executive Committee of ISSUP Kenya Chapter and has moderated professional dialogues and contributed to national and international initiatives promoting recovery-oriented practice and multidisciplinary collaboration.
