Honourable Dato Sri Hajah Fatimah Abdullah is the Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Sarawak, Malaysia since 2022. With more than two decades of experience, Honourable Minister is a seasoned law maker in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly.

Honourable Minister is the Chairman of the Sarawak Social Development Council since 2016. Her passion for drug demand reduction emerged after she was appointed as the chairperson of the Sarawak One Stop Committee (OSC) for Addressing Drugs and Substance Abuse Issues in 2018.

Honourable Dato Sri Hajah Fatimah’s leadership is instrumental in transforming the framework for addressing social issues and issues related to drugs and substance abuse through a whole-of-nation approach by setting up a functional and effective inter-agency governance, the Sarawak One Stop Committee (OSC) for Addressing Drugs and Substance Abuse Issues; leveraging on and developing evidence-based social programs; implementing robust integrated social intervention activities and action plans for drug supply reduction, drug demand reduction, prevention, treatment and recovery for vulnerable groups affected by drug use and use disorders, and other social issues in Sarawak.

Her stewardship is also instrumental in setting up the Community Development and Intervention Centres (CDIC) for families affected by substance use, abuse and use disorders in the community; commissioning the Integrated Social Issue Case Management System (ISICMS) to register, tract, monitor, evaluate and provide integrated referrals for recovery capital needs across agencies, intervention and social support for services and cash transfers to individuals affected by social issues, including substance use and use disorders; and commissioning the Low Income Family Empowerment (LIFE), a cash transfer initiative for families affected by social issues in Sarawak.

Besides that, Honourable Minister is also passionate on issues on the wellbeing of groups with special needs, teenage marriage and pregnancy, single mothers, children in incarceration and in contact with the criminal justice system.

The growing prevalence of substance use, abuse and use disorders (SUD), particularly in disadvantaged and marginalized groups, underscores the need for comprehensive and sustainable intervention strategies to mitigate their impact at the grassroots level.
