We’re excited to share that ISSUP has successfully launched the pilot of the Investing in Evidence-Based Prevention (IEP) Workshop, attended by 18 participants from 17 countries. The workshop was delivered in two online sessions, held on 14 and 21 August, bringing together policy-makers, decision-makers and funders.
The IEP workshop was developed by Jeff Lee, and Rachele Donini, together with the Scientific Support Team (SST). The pilot was delivered by Rachele Donini as trainer.
The first session, Introduction to Prevention Science, focused on the fundamentals of prevention, including the science behind research-based approaches and international resources grounded in research. The second session, Prevention in Action: Collaborating for Impact, explored practical strategies, challenged common myths in prevention, highlighted the roles of key stakeholders, and introduced an assessment checklist to guide decision-making.
The workshop was designed around the following objectives, guiding participants toward a focused and impactful learning experience:
-
Understand the key concepts of prevention science and what defines evidence-based prevention.
-
Recognise the multidisciplinary nature of prevention and the distinct roles of various stakeholders.
-
Appreciate the importance of making cost-effective investments in prevention to maximise impact and sustainability.
This pilot marks a significant step in ISSUP’s ongoing efforts to strengthen global responses to substance use. By equipping participants with research-based knowledge and practical tools, the workshop supports informed decision-making, leadership, and broader systems strengthening in prevention.
