The Addiction Counselor’s Role in Medication-Assisted Treatment and Recovery (MATR) Settings
Time: 3PM - 4:30PM Eastern Time
Counselor workforce turnover is a critical area of concern for substance use disorder (SUD) treatment providers. Before COVID-19, turnover rates for counselors in SUD settings were substantial, ranging from 33% to 74% (Hatch-Maillette et al., 2019). Since then, turnover has steadily increased. Due to the known link between counselor and patient retention, treatment programs must implement successful strategies for counselor retention. For over a decade, the counselor’s role in treating the opioid epidemic has been underemphasized. In this presentation, participants will acquire counselor role clarification in the opioid epidemic and workforce solutions for sustainable value-based care.
