Bi-Monthly Webinar: ISSUP Nigeria Knowledge Update Series (21st Session). This webinar focuses on the topic of 'Recovery Oriented Services in Co-occurring Disorders.'

Learning Outcomes

Following this webinar, participants will:

  1. Understand that co-occurring substance use disorders and mental illnesses are common among people in treatment.
  2. Understand that people with co-occurring disorders are more likely to relapse and with worse psychosocial outcomes.
  3. Understand and articulate the positive outcomes associated with integrated care for people with co-occurring disorders.
  4. Understand recovery and the fundamental components of recovery for people with co-occurring disorders.
  5. Understand the roles of providers and services in recovery for people with co-occurring disorders.

Dr. Kingsley Okonoda

Dr. Okonoda is a Consultant Psychiatrist and the immediate past Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee for Education and Training at the Jos University Teaching Hospital. Additionally, he holds the position of Reader (Associate Professor) in Addiction, Social, and Rehabilitation Psychiatry at the University of Jos. He obtained a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and a Master's in Public Health from the University of Jos. Dr. Okonoda is a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians, a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, and a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria. He is a certified management consultant and a certified management specialist with a distinction in Time Management from the London Graduate School. His certifications also include Leadership and Management in Health, Implementation Science, and Project Management from the University of Washington.

Dr. Okonoda has served in various capacities, including the immediate past Auditor for the Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria, a past Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association Plateau State, and a Past Secretary-General of the Association of Resident Doctors at the Jos University Teaching Hospital. He is a member of the International Society of Substance Use Prevention and Treatment Professionals (ISSUP) both at the global level and within the Nigeria chapter. Dr. Okonoda also held the position of the immediate past coordinator for the Plateau state branch of ISSUP Nigeria chapter.
