Official re-launch of ISSUP Brazil during the 10th Freemind International Congress

ISSUP carried out the official re-launch of the new ISSUP Brazil National Chapter within the framework of the 10th Freemind International Congress on November 18th, in the city of Brasilia, one of the most relevant events in the region in the field of prevention, treatment and recovery of substance use.

This relaunch marks a new stage for ISSUP Brazil, now formed as a consortium of leading organisations joining efforts to strengthen professionalisation and cooperation in the country.

The institutions that make up this consortium are:

  • Associação Alcoolismo Feminino (AF)
  • Associação Brasileira de Estudos do Álcool e outras Drogas (ABEAD)
  • Federação Brasileira de Comunidades Terapêuticas (FEBRACT)
  • Freemind Brasil

During the ceremony, representatives from each organisation shared their work, their vision, and the joint commitment they are undertaking as part of this new National Chapter of ISSUP Brazil.

The following participated in the official re-launch session:

  • Bárbara Correa- ISSUP Global, Regional Coordinator of ISSUP National Chapters in Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries, who highlighted the importance of collaborative work to strengthen professional capacities in the region.

  • Andrea Escobar - CICAD/OAS, who emphasised the strategic role of the OAS/CICAD in strengthening drug demand reduction policies and programs, especially training for faith-based organisations and young leaders.

  • Grazi Santoro - AF, sharing the work they do in support of women affected by alcoholism.

  • Selene Barreto - ABEAD, who discussed ABEAD contribution to the scientific study of alcohol and other drugs in Brazil.

  • Lucas Roncati - FEBRACT, who highlighted the importance of continuing training in therapeutic communities.

  • Samuel Bettiol - Freemind, who spoke about the experience of the movement and the importance of joining forces through ISSUP Brazil.

As part of the congress activities, OAS/CICAD also conducted a training session for faith-based organisations, reinforcing the commitment to expand access to specialised training for different sectors involved in drug demand reduction.

The 10th Freemind International Congress brought together more than 1,700 participants, solidifying its position as an essential meeting point for the exchange of knowledge, scientific evidence, and collaboration in the region.
