Lions Quest Skills for Adolescence Programme in Montenegro – Implementation results

Martin Loinig - 27 July 2020

Following the successful implementation of the “Lions Quest Skills for Adolescence” programme in Serbia in 2014/15, programme implementation was gradually extended to Montenegro and North Macedonia in 2015.

In Montenegro, UNODC and the Lions Clubs International Foundation worked in close cooperation with the Ministry of Education to deliver the programme across the cities of Podgorica, Niksic, Cetinje and Danilovgrad. The first cycle of the programme in Montenegro was delivered in the academic year 2015/16 and reached more than 805 students, aged 10-14, across 17 schools. For this purpose, 82 teachers completed training sessions prior to the programme kick-off, in addition to two trained teachers as trainer candidates.

Building on the positive results of the first implementation cycle of the programme, a second and extended implementation cycle of the “Lions Quest Skills for Adolescence” programme was availed to Montenegro. This new cycle included 11 additional elementary schools in Kotor, Bijela, Bar, Tivat, Ulcinj, Budva, Herceg Novi, and Prcanj in a two-year implementation modality, offering training to 23 educators to expand their knowledge on programme material and implementation techniques and skills. In the same manner as the first cycle, the second one was systematically monitored and measured to evaluate the effectiveness of the programme.

Overall, across both cycles, 105 teachers were trained to deliver the nationally adapted programme to over 1,500 students across 28 schools throughout the country (located in Podgorica, Niksic, Cetinje, Danilovgrad, Spuz, Ulcinj, Bar, Kotor, Herceg Novi, Tivat and Budva).
