Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Director of Addiction Services in Outpatient Addiction Services for Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.

The primary purpose of the Director, Addiction Services position is to provide administrative direction and oversight to assigned licensed addiction programs, to ensure program integrity and fiscal viability for all assigned programs. Responsible for ongoing program development and compliance with regulatory requirements. Ensures that services provided are consistent with the Vision, Values and Mission Statements of University Behavioral Health Care. Effectively manages coordination with other University Behavioral Health Care departments and community and state agencies. Acts as a positive role model for staff and works effectively to grow services. 

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Provides administrative and clinical direction for program/service line.
  • Directs oversight and coordination of all research initiatives. 
  • Assures accuracy of all program records and logs.
  • Directs course of action in emergency situations. 
  • Demonstrates the ability to intervene and make clinically sound decisions in crisis situations. 
  • Monitors medical case record compliance to adhere to all regulatory requirements.
  • Prepares narrative and summary reports as requested by supervisor 
  • Supervises staff as assigned by Vice President. 
  • Collaborates effectively with internal and external service providers, staff members, referral sources and program funders. 
  • Writes grant proposals to expand services and to develop new programs.
  • Ensures that grant-funded programs meet their respective contracted levels of service and outcome goals. 
  • Performs duties relevant to a leadership position and supports goals and objectives of University Behavioral Health Care. 
  • Budgets resources effectively and manages services within established budgets as measured by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
  • Ensures that all documentation meets University Behavioral Health Care, The Joint Commission, and respective licensing standards and regulations and that all is completed within the required timeframes. 
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all consumers, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment. 

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Minimum of Master’s Degree in mental health, addiction services, human services or related field and seven (7) years of progressively responsible postgraduate experience in treatment and program development within a behavioral healthcare organization with specific and direct experience related to substance use disorder treatment, with two (2) years of supervisory/management experience. 

Certifications/Licenses 

  • New Jersey license required by discipline. Applicants possessing a degree in Social Work must have an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work.
