National Substance Use Prevention Week 2026 Summit, Nairobi, Kenya.

ISSUP Kenya members actively participated in the National Substance Use Prevention Week Summit held on 12–13 February 2026 at the Kenya School of Government, Lower Kabete. The Summit was convened by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) and brought together policymakers, practitioners, civil society leaders, and community stakeholders.

The Summit was officially opened by Chief Guest Bishop Dr. Stephen Mairori, Chairperson of the NACADA Board. Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, CEO NACADA, and a panel of distinguished speakers addressed participants during the two-day Summit. NACADA senior management, under the guidance of Dr. Yvonne Olando, Director of Public Education and Advocacy, and Judith Twala, Deputy Director of Public Awareness and Advocacy, coordinated the Summit alongside their teams and partner organisations, ensuring a well-structured and impactful engagement.

Over the two days, the Summit explored evidence-based prevention strategies across families, schools, workplaces, and communities, while strengthening dialogue on policy, advocacy, recovery support, and multi-sector collaboration. The discussions reinforced the importance of professional standards and coordinated national action in advancing prevention efforts.

ISSUP Kenya members contributing to the discussions included Catherine Muthiani, Vice President ISSUP Kenya and Training Manager at SAPTA; Ms. Nkatha Mwenda, Media and PR Lead, ISSUP Kenya, Chairperson Graceful Youth Recovery Centre; Sammy Ombisa, Secretary, ISSUP Kenya, Fahari Wellness; Catherine Ngugi Counselling Psychologist, PCEA Rehabilitation Centre, Nakuru; and Dr. Susan Gitau, APRAK Chairperson and Founder of ELEWA Ulevi, to name a few.

A key highlight of the Summit was the vibrant Country-themed Sober Dinner, where participants embraced cowgirl and cowboy fashion, enjoyed engaging entertainment, and shared inspiring reflections. The evening reinforced a powerful message: meaningful connection, celebration, and inspiration flourish in sober spaces.

ISSUP Kenya remains committed to strengthening professional capacity, advancing prevention science, and fostering collaboration to build healthier communities across the country.

Prevention is not an event — it is a sustained commitment.
