Substance Use & Mental Health Counsellor

Responsibilities for a Counsellor include, but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrating and communicating the core values of Better Life Partners
  • Facilitating group therapy sessions for Better Life Partners members
  • Familiarising with and utilizing Better Life Partners evidence-based curriculum guides and training
  • Providing detailed feedback and maintaining clinical progress notes on members
  • Counseling one-on-one with members, when deemed necessary
  • Participating in Better Life Partners’, community research and public health partners’ research and data collection efforts
  • Formulating and maintaining treatment plans for each member served
  • Collaborating with community partners and Better Life Partners providers on case management and care coordination efforts
  • Adhering to professional and ethical work standards, enforcing appropriate counsellor/client boundaries
  • Managing group dynamics and problem behaviour with strong, professional judgment and in a way that does not jeopardise group integrity
  • Maintaining compliance with federal, state and local regulations for licensing and billing purposes
  • Attending and engaging in regular training, company meetings, monthly counsellor consultation, and supervision as necessary

Qualifications for a Counsellor:

  • Graduate degree in mental health, social work, psychology, addictions or related field
  • ME License as LADC, LMHC, LCMHC, LCPC, LCSW or LICSW; or dual LADC + LCSW licensure
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience working with substance use or related field
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel periodically within ME
