The South African Community Epidemiology Network on Drug Use (SACENDU) have produced a short report on alcohol and other drug trends for 2018.
SACENDU is operational in 9 South African provinces, monitoring trends in alcohol and other drug use (AOD) and treatment outcomes.
The report explores the number of people admitted for treatment and the range of substances people may have been seeking treatment for showing cannabis to be the most prevalent drug being used. Also mentioned are the substances methcathinone and Mandrax the brand name for a sedative, methaqualone. These substances are not widely used globally and this data presents a good insight into South African drug trends.
