ISSUP -KENYA was honoured to participate in the Validation Workshop for the National Strategy for Prevention and Management of the Health Impacts of Alcohol Use (2026–2030), convened by the The Ministry of Health – Division of Mental Health on 30th and 31st July 2026 in Nairobi.
As a member of the Technical Working Group on Alcohol Prevention, ISSUP Kenya Executive Committee led by President Dr. Pamela Kaithuru, Deputy President Catherine Muthiani, PR and Media Lead Ms. Nkatha Mwenda, a Lived Experience Expert and members, joined government institutions, development partners, professional associations, academia, civil society organizations and other stakeholders in reviewing and validating the draft strategy, which seeks to strengthen Kenya's response to the health impacts of alcohol use.
The two-day validation workshop provided an opportunity to review the draft strategy, consolidate stakeholder input, validate the implementation framework and costed action matrix, and strengthen the strategy ahead of its adoption and implementation.
ISSUP Kenya remains committed to supporting national efforts by promoting evidence-informed prevention, strengthening the substance use prevention workforce, advancing best practices, and fostering multi-sectoral collaboration to reduce alcohol-related harm.
We commend the Ministry of Health – Division of Mental Health for its leadership in steering this important process and appreciate the collaboration and contributions of all partners, including NCD Alliance Kenya, members of the Technical Working Group and participating stakeholders, whose collective efforts continue to advance alcohol prevention and public health in Kenya.
