World AIDS Day December 1st, 2020 has been observed by the team of EQUIP Research & Development Consultants in collaboration & partnership with ISSUP Pakistan & Youth Forum Pakistan (For Drug Use Prevention) at the EQUIP Head Office, Multan, Pakistan on 1st December 2020.
In this one-day seminar, we have discussed what is world AIDS Day? It’s an International Day which is observed each year, on 1st December, the World remember World AIDS Day. People around the world unite to show support for people living with HIV/Aids and to remember those who have died from AIDS-related illnesses. This idea was conceived in 1988 by the UN Agencies, governments and civil society join together to campaign around specific themes related to HIV.
Each World AIDS Day focuses on a specific theme, which this year 2020 has “Global solidarity, shared responsibility”.
This year’s theme joins a growing list of challenges that World AIDS Day has alerted people to Globally.
We have also shared that Why Is World Aids Day Important? Over 160,000 people are living with HIV in Pakistan. Globally, there are an estimated 38 million people who have the virus. Despite the virus only being identified in 1984, more than 35 million people have died of HIV or AIDS, making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history.
Discussed stigma and discrimination, scientific advances, HIV treatment, to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice, empowering communities and improve education. Ending the HIV/AIDS Epidemic: Resilience and Impact is especially tragic/painful this year as our HIV community has been newly challenged by, and often led the response to, COVID-19 in communities around the globe.
Also discussed what is HIV, HIV symptoms, What Is AIDS, Symptoms of AIDS, the difference between Covid-19 and AIDS, Bloodborne & Airborne Viruses, Where did HIV come from, HIV Epidemic, Resilience & Impact, Concentrated HIV Epidemic, Generalized epidemic, Epidemic, Pandemic, Endemic, HIV Risk Reduction Tools; 1- Understanding about HIV, 2- How do I know if I have HIV, 3- How HIV is transmitted, 4- What can increase HIV risk, 5- What can decrease HIV risk, 6- How I can prevent getting or transmitting HIV, but What About After World Aids Day & following The Ending Notes; that Global solidarity and shared responsibility requires; Health is fully financed, Health Systems are strengthened, Access is ensured, Human rights are respected & The rights of women and girls, and gender equality, are at the center.
