Universal Treatment Curricula (UTC) Refresher Training and International Certified Addiction Professional (ICAP) Examination for Treatment Practitioners in Pakistan
Working jointly the International Society of Substance Use Professional (ISSUP) Pakistan National Chapter and Drug Advisory Program (DAP) of the Colombo Plan, in collaboration with the US Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Pakistan, organized a three-day UTC refresher training followed by ICAP examination for Pakistani substance use treatment professionals on November 21-24, 2019 in Lahore, Pakistan.
A total of 86 treatment practitioners including 37 from Punjab province, 22 from Sindh province, 14 from Islamabad, 9 from Baluchistan and 4 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province attended the training and examination. Breakdown of treatment practitioners appeared in the ICAP examination includes 39 in ICAP-I, 39 in ICAP-II, 5/Five in ICAP-III and four in Recovery Support examinations. These practitioners are mainly comprised of psychiatrics, psychologists, counsellors, medical doctors, and social workers from different substance use treatment centers both in public and private sectors across the country. The three-day training was delivered in three group of participants by the Colombo Plan national UTC trainers supervised by the DAP Senior Advisor.
In the closing ceremony, ISSUP Pakistan Chapter President Mr. Bashir Ahmad Naz and DAP Senior Advisor Muhammad Ayub distributed training completion certificates among the participants and plaques of appreciation among the trainers. ISSUP Pakistan Chapter President reiterated his commitment to continue working with DAP for the capacity building and credentialing treatment workforce in Pakistan.

The International Society of Substance Use Professionals National Chapter in Pakistan and Youth Forum Pakistan (For drug abuse prevention among youth) are organising a NATIONAL YOUTH CONVENTION and the 1st poster competition with the theme of "PAINT FOR DRUG FREE PAKISTAN" on 6th of February, 2020 from 09:00 am to 0:500 pm at Al Hamra Art Council Lahore. Youth from all provinces of Pakistan including Punjab, Sindh, KPK, Gilgit Baltistan, AJK and Baluchistan are invited to take part in the event.
The main objective of this event is to create awareness of drug abuse among youth and to motivate young people to take an active role in drug abuse prevention and to share future plans with them.

Six Days Training Workshop of UTC 5 & 8 for Addiction Professionals of Pakistan Organized by M A Jinnah Foundation, Nishan Rehab & ISSUP Pakistan
M A Jinnah Foundation(Regd), Sialkot in collaboration with Nishan Rehab Pakistan (an approved Education Provider by Colombo Plan DAP) organized six days training workshop on Universal Treatment Curriculum for Addiction Professional UTC 5 (Intake, Assessment, Screening, Documentation & Treatment Planning) and UTC Ethics for Addiction Professionals from 1st - 6th November, 2019 at New Life Rehab, Center for Drug Prevention, Treatment & Rehabilitation opposite KFC near the general bus stand, Sialkot which is sponsored by Mr. Bashir Ahmed Naz, President ISSUP Pakistan Chapter.
Participants from different parts of Pakistan participated in the said training. During the six days of training National Trainers including Dr. Talat Habib, Dr. Muhammad Azhar, Dr. Jawad Muhammad Shujaat, Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed, Mr. Shahid Mehmood, Mr. Muhammad Talha, Ms. Maafia Shehzadi conducted the training. Mr. Bashir Ahmad Naz, President ISSUP Pakistan, hosted a dinner in Rachna Hotel, Gujranwala for participants of a 4 days UTC workshop organized by the Mian Afzal Trust Hospital (MATH), Gujranwala Pakistan and the ISSUP Pakistan Chapter. Mr. Sana Ullah Rathore, Director, ISSUP Pakistan Chapter, and a large number of ISSUP Members and participants of the workshop participated in the dinner. Mr. Bashir Ahmad Naz, President ISSUP Pakistan Chapter addressed the dinner guests that said that ISSUP Pakistan is trying its best to train professionals on evidence-based practices with the support of Education Provider Mian Afzal Trust Hospital. I really appreciate the efforts of MATH team for training the drug treatment professionals. Mr. Sana Ullah Rathore, Director ISSUP Pakistan/Chairman MATH, said that their is dire need of training of drug treatment professionals. He also asked participants to join ISSUP and become a member of ISSUP. Mr. Rana Maqsood Ahmad, Sufi Muhammad Javed, Rana Maqsood Ahmad, Jamil Ahmad Cheema and Mr. Talha Khalid also addressed the audience.
Closing ceremony of 4 days training workshop of UTC 4 and 7 organized by Mian Afzal Trust Hospital, Gujranwala Pakistan in collaboration with ISSUP Pakistan Chapter was held at the MATH conference hall. Mr. Bashir Ahmad Naz was the Chief Guest and Mr. Iftikhar Ahmad, Director ISSUP Pakistan Chapter and Mr. Sana Ullah Rathore, Director ISSUP Pakistan Chapter, Rana Maqsood Ahmad, Deputy Mayor of Gujranwala were guests of honor. Mr. Bashir Ahmad Naz said that ISSUP Pakistan has planned to conduct a series of training for drug treatment professionals in Pakistan and members of ISSUP Pakistan. Mr. Sana Ullah Rathore Director ISSUP Pakistan/Chairman MATH said that ISSUP Pakistan and MATH working together and train the drug treatment professionals of Pakistan. He also said MATH tried its best to provide the learning environment to the participants. He also said that MATH also provided a platform to senior and junior trainers. Mr. Ifftikhar Ahmad said that it was a unique training wherein people came together from different parts of the Punjab province and participated in the training workshop. Hopefully they will pass the upcoming ICAP examination. The inaugural ceremony of a 4 days training workshop of UTC 4 & 7 was held on 24th October, 2019 at the Mian Afzal Trust Hospital, Gujranwala, Pakistan which was organized by Mian Afzal Trust Hospital, (MATH) Gujranwala Pakistan in collaboration with ISSUP Pakistan Chapter with support of Mr. Bashir Naz, President ISSUP Pakistan. Mr. Bashir Ahmad Naz, Mr. Muhammad Ayub, Senior Adviser Colombo Plan were the chief guest of ceremony. Mr. Muhammad Ayub, said it is very good opportunity for the participants to learn about evidence-based practices and present themselves for the ICAP examination which is going to be held on 24th November, 2019 in Pakistan. Mr. Bashir Ahmad Naz said that he was am supporting such training from his personal company. He advised the participants to use the evidence-based practices in their facilities. Mr. Sana Ullah Rathore said that MATH as an education provider is trying to train the drug treatment professionals of Pakistan through a series of training workshops. He also thanked Mr. Bashir Naz for the support and Mr. Jawad, Mr. Nisar and Ms. Tasleem for the facilitation of the training. Mr. Muhammad Javed and Arshad Javed welcomed the guests.
