Lecturer in Drug and Alcohol Studies- University of the West of Scotland

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lecturer in Drug and Alcohol Studies to join the Contemporary Drug and Alcohol Studies (CDAS) programme within the School of Education and Social Sciences at the University of the West of Scotland. You will join a dedicated team who strive to continuously inspire our students and wider University community – and, through modern teaching and impactful research, continue to deliver innovative solutions to some of the world’s biggest challenges. 

The postholder will play a central role in delivering an excellent and research-based student experience. They will be engaged in the development of educational thinking, practice and research in the broad areas of curriculum design, learning and teaching, and assessment. They will be knowledgeable in contemporary pedagogies, particularly in relation to co-creation and active learning, and be familiar with online learning environments and the principles of digital education. They will also be able to evidence positive practice in these areas. The postholder will produce and publish excellent research outputs commensurate with the stage of career and evidence an ability to attract independent research funding to support this work.

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • A completed, or close to completion, PhD in Social Sciences or relevant area is essential.
  • Experience of studying, researching or working in the substance use or related field who can contribute to the CDAS teaching and research programme.
  • A postgraduate qualification in the area of education/learning and teaching/ Advance Higher Education Fellowship or equivalent are highly desirable.
