La Sociedad de Neurología, Psiquiatría y Neurocirugía de Chile, es la organización patrocinante del capítulo chileno de ISSUP y es una de las sociedades científicas más importantes del país.

Hace unos días tuvimos reuniones con el Presidente de SONEPSYN, Dr. Lientur Taha y con el Dr. Mario Hitschfeld, coordinador del Grupo de Trabajo de Adicciones de la sociedad. Ambos reafirmaron su apoyo al capítulo chileno de ISSUP e invitaron a los socios a participar de sus actividades.

Prices, Alcohol Use Initiation and Heavy Episodic Drinking among Chilean Youth

Research suggests that early initiation of alcohol use is a risk factor for multiple problems later in life, including heavy episodic drinking and alcohol use disorders.

Prevention scientists are particularly interested in understanding the reasons why young people experiment with alcohol and measures that can be introduced to help reduce alcohol use amongst this age group.

Planet Youth in Chile

The Chilian government has announced the development of the 'Choose to Live Without Drugs' system in Chile. Here, the director of Public Space and psychiatrist Mariano Montenegro describes the Icelandic model that inspired "Choose to live without drugs". He justifies why this initiative would work in Chile and describes the adaptions and measures that would be put in place to allow the model to be successfully implemented throughout the country.

Background: "Strong Families" is a family program aimed at preventing risk behaviors in adolescents from 10 to 14 years of age. It has been developed by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and is based on the Iowa Strengthening Families Program. This program has been certified and has been proven to effectively prevent adolescent drug and alcohol abuse in several countries around the globe.
